Halloween and other Tidbits
Hi everyone! First off a very happy Halloween to all my American and Canadian? friends. One piece of trivia before I proceed: In Spain--and in at least a few other Spanish-speaking countries--Halloween is celebrated earlier in the year and is called "Dia de la Muerta," which literally translates to "Day of the Dead." I can't recall exactly what happens on this day, but what I do know is that there is something called Las Posadas, which is associated with this day. So there you have it, my knowledge on the Day of the Dead. Moving right along...I have officially relocated. That's right, Monday marked the official move. I say that because on that day both my land-line phone and Internet were hooked up. For several days I was virtually out of touch with the real world as I know it, excepting of course physically walking out of my apartment and going to see people or having them come to me or just making calls from my cell phone. So now I can say with honesty that I have officially moved in. It feels great being more independent, and from what I'm told this apartment looks great. I've only experienced one technical glitch so far, and it turned out to be only a minor one. My new ISP gave me the option of using their own Internet browser. The problem was that their browser didn't appear to get along with my screen reader. I found this out when I opened a link in an email message that was sent to me. But as I later found out, there was an easy fix for this: just uninstall their browser and go back to using the one with which I am most comfortable. So I did that and went back to the browser of my choice, that being Internet Explorer from the good people at Microsoft. Very easy, no harm done. CIF is having one of their annual fundraisers this coming weekend, and I was asked to put the program into Braille. I did this, since I am a firm believer in access for all.
