It's Here!

Yes folks it has arrived. I'm speaking about the first public beta of JAWS for Windows version 9.0. Those of you who use JAWS and have up-to-date SMA's will definitely want to head on over to http://www.freedomscientific.com , or http://www.hj.com and read about and download this first public beta of what promises to be a great release. Both addresses go to the same place. I have already been using it for a few hours and I'm finding it to be very good. The current episode of FSCast, Freedom Scientific's answer to podcasting, features an interview with Eric Damory of the JAWS team regarding their latest and greatest release. Check it out today!

Moving Onward and Upward Part VI: The First Glance

Hi folks. I got my first glance at the new apartment today. Actually it was a little more than just a glance or a glimpse. I received a call from a CIF staff member asking me if I wanted to go up and see my new apartment. I immediately thought to myself: The apartment cannot already be done. Work had only begun on it yesterday. So I went up and sure enough, the place was open and I went inside. Everything looks great. I'm not sure about the colors though since I cannot see them anyway, but people tell me they look good. I think that's all for now as I will have more exciting stuff to report later on.

JAWS 9.0 Update Available

Hi everyone. I'd like to announce the availability of an update to the first public beta of JAWS version 9.0. For those running JAWS version 8 or higher, this update may be installed simply by bringing up the JAWS main window, and then going to Help and choosing Check for Updates. Hit the spacebar to select the current update, and then tab on over to the Install button and press Enter. The update will be installed, and JAWS will ask to restart the computer in order to successfully install the update. This update seems to only apply to Windows VISTA users, but everybody can benefit from it. Speaking of Windows VISTA, Microsoft is delaying the stoppage of Windows XP until June of 2008. I for one am perfectly happy with Windows XP and I currently have no plans in the works for a new computer until this one becomes totally unusable, so this news came as a pleasant surprise to me. I think a lot of work will have to be put into moving my current computer up to my new apartment anyway.

It's Unofficial!

Why hello there everybody! I think this entry's title just about explains it all. On Saturday evening there was a pasta dinner for those who would be running in yesterday's Chicago marathon. More on the marathon in a moment. But several CIF residents were in attendance including yours truly. I was given the green light, so yesterday my tutor and I moved my bed and some other stuff upstairs, and I spent last night up there. It was a very good sleep indeed. Most of my belongings have been moved, but there's some stuff which needs to be taken care of. One of those is that I need a microwave. I'm probably going with GE, because one can order Braille labels direct from the company. That is the route my parents went, and they are great microwaves. This morning after my tutor and I did our grocery shopping, I went with my mom on some errands. We ordered a kitchen table and some stools for me, and they are scheduled to be delivered later this week. The previous tenant, who was also a CIF resident, was kind enough to leave a bookcase and a window air-conditioner for whomever moved in after she moved out. I didn't expect the air-conditioner to work well because it was incredibly filthy, but the unit runs just fine. Also, the construction crew was kind enough to install a ceiling fan in the bedroom. And now to the marathon of yesterday. Apparently it was so hot and humid that the marathon had to end early, but all runners who ran for CIF I'm told did a good job.
